Maja Ratkje

Maja Ratkje (b. 1973) is a unique extreme vocalist, noise artist and multi-facetted electronic musician, whose sound displays versatility from the high explosive to a sort of psychedelic trance chamber. Ratkje has roots within classical composing and improvisation, and has stated her name absolutely clear on the international avant-garde scene, by practicing the extreme sides of the voice scope. Her performance is based on sophisticated musical machinery, where hypnotic singing, whispers and screams occur side by side to sample techniques and home built electronics. Ratkje has been capable of taking the territory of the voice to entirely new stages, which has made her one of the most popular vocal improvisators right now.
